报告摘要:Two dominant procurement policies for etailers (online retailers) are (i) the conventional in-stock (batch ordering) and (ii) drop-shipping policies. While relatively small and/or early stage etailers prefer drop-shipping, some powerful etailers have moved to batch ordering policies. By incorporating channel power structures and different decision sequences/variables of the two procurement policies, we study an etailer’s optimal procurement policy and supply chain performance. We consider a dual-channel supply chain in which a manufacturer can sell through a conventional brick-and-mortar retail channel and an online channel. We analyze and compare the two procurement models with respect to the etailer’s decision on inventory strategies. We further analyze how the channel power structure affects the etailer’s procurement policy and optimal solutions, and answer questions such as when the etailer and/or the manufacturer can benefit from drop-shipping and how the drop-shipping strategy affects overall supply chain performance.
